On the agenda this week as REALTORS® trek to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress: protecting the mortgage interest deduction, retaining a government guarantee for the secondary mortgage market, fixing the short-sale process, and ensuring that the qualified residential mortgage rule is inclusive of future home buyers. Says NAR First Vice President Gary Thomas in a video from this week's Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo, "A functioning real estate market can again lead this country out of recession."

Government Affairs Updates
Spring Hill Elections: Reminder that the Spring Hill Elections are coming soon. Voting in your local elections is key for Realtors. This can potentially affect everything that we do on a daily basis. Candidates for Alderman include: Elliot Mitchell- Alderman 2nd, John Murphy- Alderman-2nd, James Cichoracki- Alderman 4th, Bruce Hull- Alderman 4th. These candidate all took the time to answer a questionnaire and visit with our members last month lets take the time to show up and vote!
TAR Realtor Day on the Hill: Day on the Hill was a great time for our group. We were able to meet with all of our elected officials, the Governor and the Lt. Governor. Thanks to those that came out to support our advocacy efforts on behalf of the realty profession!

Call To Action:
The National Association of Realtors sent out a Call to Action regarding the threat to the Mortgage Interest Deduction.
Click here to watch the video and to take action on this issue.
City of Brentwood State of the City Address
Tell-a-Friend:
Tell your friends to help Preserve, Protect and Defend MID.
You can send this information out to all of your clients and homeowners as well to help protect the MID. Elimination or reduction of this important
Program would affect almost 20% of Williamson County home owners. Please respond to the call for action and tell your elected officials to Protect the MID!
Repeal 1099 for Small Businesses:
Recently, there has been a lot of press on votes to repeal the new 1099 provision. Both the Senate and the House have passed their own versions of repeal, and an overwhelming majority of members have voted for repeal at some point.
However, until the president signs a bill passed by both chambers of Congress, the 1099 reporting requirement has not been repealed.
The Senate is considering whether to take up the repeal bill passed by the House or pass their own version of repeal again. Our message to Congress on the 1099 is simple: get it done. Too often we've seen Congress bicker over tax issues until it is too late to reform or pass them - the estate tax issue was not decided until after the deadline had passed. If we do not encourage both chambers of Congress to work together today, the issue could not get repealed until it is too late.
Send a message to your member of Congress that it is not enough to just vote for repeal - they need to be a champion for repeal. Take action today
What is RPAC doing for you? Did you know that REALTORS are considered one of the major forces in Washington? When it comes to protecting the rights of property owners and the real estate industry the National Association takes that dollars that you contribute to RPAC and is putting them to good use. A perfect example is the Mortgage Interest Deduction fight. Each and every day we have people on the hill fighting to protect our industry from legislation that could cripple a hurting market. We need you to be an RPAC contributor! It takes everyone.
RPAC is running a 99er special. Contribute $99.00 to RPAC and become a 99er. Local Associations and States are in competition to see who can have the most 99er contributors. The best part- We get a portion of all RPAC funds that come back to the local level so we can use that funding in local races. Local races, as you know, can affect your daily business so call the WCAR office at 771-6845 and ask to become a 99er today!
